The Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy Vassilis Kikilias met with the Director-General in DG Migration and Home Affairs Beate Gminder on Tuesday.
Gminder emphasised that “ the role of the Hellenic Coast Guard is vital in safeguarding the maritime borders of Greece and the European Union, as well as in saving thousands of lives.”
For his part Kikilias, stressed that migratory flows have increased by 134% from Libya and referred to Greece’s efforts to cooperate with neighbouring states for their effective management. He also stressed the need to fight the network of modern smugglers, who put human lives in mortal danger every day.
