Authorities have issued a high fire risk warning for Saturday across several parts of the country, with Civil Protection classifying six regions under “very high fire risk” (the second-highest category).
The regions facing heightened danger include all of Attica, Central Greece (Evia and Viotia), the Peloponnese (Corinth and Argolida), Northern Aegean (Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Ikaria), all of Crete, and Central Macedonia (Thessaloniki, Kilkis).

Citizens are urged to be exceptionally careful and avoid any activity in the open that could accidentally cause a fire, such as burning vegetation, using machinery that creates sparks, lighting barbecues or throwing away lit cigarettes.
The fire service reported a total of 40 wildfires on Friday. Of the 40 fires, 33 were swiftly extinguished in their initial stages, while firefighters continued to battle the remaining seven blazes as of Friday evening.
One of the most serious incidents occurred in the Argithea area of Peania, Attica, where a wildfire in low brush was brought under partial control. The fire, which ignited around 6.30 p.m. near a village, triggered a large-scale response involving 50 firefighters, two specialist forest commando units, 15 fire trucks, volunteers, two firefighting airplanes and four helicopters.
