Greek FM: No Distortion of the Prespa Agreement Will Be Tolerated

The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a firm tone that no attempt to alter or misrepresent the Prespa Agreement will be accepted, following recent statements by the Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski.

In its announcement, the Ministry underlined that the constitutional name of the neighboring state is “North Macedonia,” as explicitly defined in Article 1 of the Prespa Agreement, to which the country is a contracting party. The Agreement forms an integral part of North Macedonia’s Constitution and is legally binding at both international and domestic levels.

The Greek Foreign Ministry stressed that any effort to falsify or distort the content of the Agreement will not be tolerated. The Prespa Agreement is part of International Law, and its full implementation constitutes a foundation for peaceful coexistence between peoples and states.

“There are no de facto situations in international treaties. Their application is uniform and universal,” the Ministry added.

Finally, the statement emphasized that progress in bilateral relations and North Macedonia’s European path is contingent upon the strict adherence to agreed commitments and full respect for the principle of good neighborly relations.
