Erdoğan’s Visit to Occupied Cyprus Draws International Criticism
Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis described the discussions as “highly productive,” while Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides noted “significant results” despite the need for greater political will to achieve more substantial progress.
The Cypriot side has more broadly linked the issue of financing the project to resolving the underlying geopolitical dispute, implicitly accusing Athens of downplaying the issue during negotiations for the intergovernmental agreement.
“We cannot change geography; Turkey will always be a neighboring state to the Republic of Cyprus. Mr. Erdoğan will, of course, be welcome at this summit to discuss developments in the region,” Christodoulides told reporters in Nicosia, as reported by Reuters.
