Afrodite Latinopoulou, a Greek MEP representing the Voice of Reason party, delivered a provocative speech during the European Parliament plenary session in Brussels.
She addressed what she described as the twin crises of illegal immigration and the Islamization of Europe. Her remarks, which drew sharp reactions from fellow parliamentarians, called for stringent measures to curb immigration and initiate mass deportations.
Latinopoulou accused European leaders, particularly those from Germany and France, of enabling illegal immigration, which she labeled a “profitable business” that fuels the Islamization of the continent. “You have filled our cities with illegal immigrants, turning them into ghettos where rape and murder are committed in the name of Allah,” she declared, claiming that Europe has become “unrecognizable” due to these demographic shifts accroding to greek city times
Proposing a hardline solution, Latinopoulou urged the EU to support frontline countries like Greece, Italy, and Spain, which face the initial influx of migrants. She advocated for denying asylum or benefits to illegal entrants, instead detaining them, confiscating their phones, and transferring them to secure facilities on remote islands for deportation—either to their home countries or third nations via agreements. “Stop subsidizing their stay; fund their removal,” she insisted, pointing to Hungary and Poland as models for effective border policies.
Her speech escalated as she called illegal immigration “the cancer of Europe,” criticizing the EU’s response as inadequate and demanding immediate mass deportations. “We have the money, airports, and detention centers—use them before Europe dies,” she said, emphasizing the need to reclaim European identity and values.
Latinopoulou also directed sharp criticism at socialist MEPs, accusing them of racism against Europeans by allowing unchecked immigration. “Look in your mirrors—you are the true racists,” she charged, rejecting their framing of the issue as a false dilemma. She clarified that her proposal involved temporary detention in closed centers for deportation, not imprisonment, and blamed EU policies for enabling crime and ghettoization.
The speech has ignited a firestorm of debate within the European Parliament, with some MEPs condemning her rhetoric as inflammatory and divisive, while others expressed support for her call to strengthen border controls. As the EU continues to grapple with immigration policy, Latinopoulou’s remarks have underscored the deep divisions over how to address this contentious issue.
