Last year’s banner year in Greece for tourism arrivals and travel remittances was echoed by figures relating to museum and archaeological site visits in the country throughout 2024.A 14.7% increase in museum visitors alone in 2024 compared to 2023 was announced by the country’s statistics authority EL.STAT this past week, with revenue up a noteworthy 22.3%
Overall, for both museums and archaeological sites in the country, the increase was 4.5% for visitors and 4.7% in revenue.
The top Greek museums in terms of visitors remained the Acropolis Museum, the National Archaeological Museum in Athens, the White Tower in Thessaloniki, the Delphi Museum and the Archaeological Museum of Irakleio (Herakleio), on Crete.
As expected, the Acropolis was the top archeological site in the country, followed by Sounion, Mycenae, the ancient theater of Epidaurus, and Vergina in northern Greece.
